The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) was founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, independent India’s first Education Minister. Its objectives are to actively participate in the formulation and implementation of policies and programs pertaining to India’s external cultural relations; to foster and strengthen cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries; to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and people, and to develop relations with nations.
Regional Office in Ahmedabad, Gujarat
The Regional Office in Ahemdabad was inaugurated by Dr. Suresh Kumar Goel, DG, ICCR, and Special Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs on 06th October 2012, to represent the ICCR locally in the region.
The Regional Office coordinates the Council’s activities in its area with regard to International Students and their welfare, Cultural performances by visiting foreign delegation, outgoing cultural delegations from the region, distinguished visitors, exhibition and seminar. Every month, the Ahmedabad Office also organizes the Horizon Series Programmes by the local as well as ICCR impaneled artists. It coordinates closely with local cultural and educational organizations and the State Government of Gujarat for carrying out ICCR’s mandate of activities.
